SELENIUM
Selenium (Se) is one of a group of nutrients termed “antioxidants”. The Se is incorporated into proteins such as glutathione peroxidase that prevents oxidative damage to mammalian cells and tissues. Cattle diseases such as “white muscle disease” can be prevented by adequate supplementation with Se. Selenium is also essential for the normal function of the reproductive system and for normal function of the immune system. The immune system fights infections and allows for a normal response to vaccines.

TOXICITY
Selenium (Se) has a very large margin of safety for cattle. The Se 365 bolus provides 3 mg Se or less per day for one year. Three mg Se per day is the maximum supplementation rate allowed by the U.S. FDA. This is an extremely safe release rate and our research shows that giving 8 Se 365 boluses at one time to cattle on a diet containing the normal amount of Se is safe for cattle.
